The Star Coffee & Ale House on High Street in Ryde has once again made the quarter finals of the British Institute of Innkeepers Licensee of the Year Award for 2024. What was once known as The Star Inn, the pub on Ryde High Street was refurbished and reopened back in August 2021 as The Star Coffee & Ale House, serving craft beers and artisan coffee from 09:00-21:00. A successful first full year of trading saw the premises win an award for innovation in their 1st summer and an award in the best business and commercial category of the Ryde in Bloom awards – despite not having a garden. Since then, the success has continued with the establishment polling at number 1 for Ryde Pubs by Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in both 2023 and 2024 as well as making the national Good Beer Guide in 2024. Rob Madigan, from the Star Coffee and Ale House, has said:
“We managed 97% last year , so didn’t make the last 25 which would have put us in the semi finals. Still, we were very pleased to get that far in a national competition. “It’s been a great start to our time here on the Island since we arrived in 2021.”
The town centre premises is the only establishment from the Isle of Wight to be nominated in this particular category.

Well done, it’s got a nice vibe in there.
My two favourite beverages under one roof!
It’s very very overpriced though.
not if you have money
A friend of mine went in there for. a pint. He stood at the bar drinking it and was told he was not allowed, he had to sit, so he left – some customer service.
Well the bar is only about 4 feet long, so I’m not surprised! What a dumb thing to moan about. I was there for a quiz the other week – superb vibe, great staff and a cracking little venue. Nomination well deserved
Destroyed a good traditional pub with plenty of local clientele
Definitely the best pint in Ryde.
I remember the days the Star was always in the CP for all the wrong reasons, and I stayed well clear. Then they had a nationally well known folk singer in for an evening last year, and that’s when I realised the Star was transformed! I had a lovely time.
Reads like the award is a gimmick.
