Ability Dogs 4 Young People has already got its newest addition of 2018, Chester, an 8-week-old yellow Labrador puppy.
The adorable puppy is the latest recruit to the Sandown-based charity’s training team and maintains the total number of Ability Dog Puppies in training at 12.
Chester was named by Gavin Penny, the son of volunteer Puppy Parent, Joan Penny. Gavin and his friends took part in a sponsored Hadrian’s Wall walk and Gavin selected Ability Dogs 4 Young People as his chosen charity. Chester is one of the forts along the route.
Joan is also Chester’s Puppy Parent – the volunteer who looks after Chester for the first year of his training.
Carol Court, Founder & CEO said:
“The sponsored activities that people undertake in order to raise money for us always surprise me. They challenge themselves and achieve so much.”
The next youngest puppies, Garfield and Luna, are now almost 6 months old. They are chocolate Labradors and are brother and sister. They are both proving to be great characters and they are already making excellent progress at this early stage of their training.
January 2018 will also see the total number of working Ability Dogs on the Island increase to 18. Tessa will be moving in with her new recipient and family, helping a young lad with complex disabilities.
Ability Dogs 4 Young People IoW is an Island charity which trains assistance dogs to improve the lives of physically and mentally disabled young people and children on the Isle of Wight.
