A yellow weather warning for wind tomorrow (Monday) has been upgraded to amber with winds as high as 80mph possible in coastal areas of the Isle of Wight.
As first reported by Island Echo, a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and strong winds was first issued by local forecaster IW Met Service on Thursday evening.
But now, as the Island prepares for the worst of the stormy weather, IW Met Service has upgraded the local warning, for those in certain coastal areas, to amber.
Local forecaster Jamie Russell says that through Monday morning we will see a spell of severe weather developing as heavy, squally showers push across the Island from the English Channel.
Around the heaviest showers, the Island could see wind gusts of 60-70mph, but possibly as high as 80mph around exposed coasts, headlands and over high ground.
The map below shows the areas – shaded in orange – most at risk of extreme gales.
