A Newport motorist has been handed 6 points on her licence after failing to tell Police quick enough who was driving her car when it was caught speeding on the M3 motorway near Basingstoke.
Amy Parker, 30, of Prospect Road, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday), where she pleaded guilty to failing to provide information to police as to the identification of a driver.
Serena Edwards for the Crown Prosecution Service told the court how officers were placed on an overbridge near Junction 7 where they were carrying out speed checks on the cars passing by below.
It was during these speed checks on 5th November last year that they found Parker’s Volvo to be travelling at 79mph in a 70 zone.
The car was being driven by Parker’s carer at the time.
Parker explained to the magistrates that she had sent the necessary form back to Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary on 11th December 2025, using a 1st Class stamp, however, the deadline for the form was the day after. Ultimately, the form did not reach the address within the allocated 28 days.
Magistrates told the defendant that they can see the issue and confusion with the form completion date and trusted that she tried to do what she was asked of her to avoid prosecution.
Parker was handed 6 points on her license, a conditional discharge of 6 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a surcharge of £25.
