Members of the Wight Tri team, Jan Fletcher and Helen Scholes, both excelled in the Spanish sun, producing strong performances against some of Europe’s best age-group athletes, securing finishing well within the top-10 and qualifying for the 2027 European Championships.
Helen completed the sprint-distance event in an impressive 1 hour 21 minutes and 5 seconds, finishing 6th in Europe and 3rd among British competitors in the women’s 60-64 age category.
Jan also enjoyed an excellent race, crossing the line in 1 hour 14 minutes and 52 seconds to claim 5th place in Europe and 3rd Brit in the women’s 50-54 age group.
Having already competed in the sprint event, Helen returned the following day to take on the standard-distance race, finishing in 2 hours 33 minutes and 29 seconds. Her performance earned her 9th place in Europe, with Fletcher the only athlete in her age category to compete on both days.
