Medina Marching Band Isle of Wight is set to represent the Island on the national stage once again as part of London Band Week, joining ensembles from across the UK and the United States in a celebration of music, pageantry and tradition.
The Island band will perform at the London Tattoo at ExCeL London on Saturday (27th June), marking its second appearance at the event.
Among those taking part are the world-renowned HM Royal Marines Band, alongside visiting American ensembles including the Liberty High School Grenadier Band, the Marching Mizzou Band from Missouri and the Carolina Band from South Carolina.
Celebrations continue on Sunday (28th June) with National Marching Music Day, which will see 26 marching bands parade along The Mall from 13:00 before finishing at Horse Guards Parade.
Medina Marching Band Isle of Wight will be joined by fellow Island ensemble Vectis Corps of Drums, with both groups proudly representing the Isle of Wight during the event.
Against the backdrop of Buckingham Palace, spectators will witness a display of drums, brass and precision marching as bands showcase traditions and musical heritage from both sides of the Atlantic.
Kevin Downer, chairman of Medina Marching Band Isle of Wight, has said:
“We are incredibly proud to be representing the Isle of Wight during London Band Week once again.
“To perform alongside the world-renowned HM Royal Marines Band and share the weekend with outstanding bands from the United States and some of the UK’s leading marching ensembles is a tremendous honour, especially during our 50th anniversary year.
“We are equally delighted that Vectis Corps of Drums will be joining us on National Marching Music Day.
“Having two Island bands among the 26 bands taking part in the parade up The Mall is a wonderful achievement and a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talent, dedication and community spirit that exists on the Isle of Wight.”
