The Isle of Wight’s 2 FA Cup entrants both bowed out in the Extra Preliminary Round following home defeats this afternoon (Saturday).
VICS HOLD VASE WINNERS AT BAY FOR 45 MINUTES
East Cowes Vics held FA Vase winners AFC Stoneham for 45 minutes before 2 second-half goals ended their FA Cup campaign at Beatrice Avenue.
Vics welcomed last season’s multiple cup winners to Beatrice Avenue for an eagerly anticipated Extra Preliminary Round tie, with managers Alex Smith and Elliot Wheeler again having to reshuffle their side.
Toby Snow was unavailable and Jake Wright missed out through injury, while Jordan Chapman returned from Europe and Caleb Dyer came into the starting line-up.
Stoneham threatened first when Arty Kerton fired narrowly wide after 6 minutes, but Vics had a good opportunity to take the lead in the 22nd minute. Josh Neale went clean through and saw his effort blocked by Brad Johnson, with the rebound falling to Chapman, who shot wide.
Tyrrell Sampson put an effort over the bar 2 minutes later before testing George Bridi in the 27th minute with a near-post drive which the Vics goalkeeper got down quickly to save.
Liam Triggs then went narrowly wide for the hosts before Char Hart’s far-post header cleared the crossbar in the 31st minute as Vics continued to match their visitors.
Stoneham responded almost immediately through Kian Towse, whose effort brought another good save from Bridi. Sampson had a further opportunity in the 34th minute, but Bridi was quickly off his line to save at the striker’s feet and keep the scores level.

After an impressive opening 45 minutes from Vics, the game changed just 40 seconds after the restart. A lapse in concentration allowed Mat Bainbridge to nip in and fire past Bridi to put Stoneham ahead (0-1).
Braydon Douglas sent an effort wide in the 50th minute, but Vics remained in the contest and came close to levelling after 61 minutes. Hart’s cross was met by Wheeler, whose header was superbly kept out by Stoneham goalkeeper Ross Casey.
Just 2 minutes later, the visitors doubled their advantage. A through ball released Sampson, who finished well to give Stoneham breathing space (0-2).
Vics continued to search for a way back into the tie, but were unable to break down a solid Stoneham defence as the visitors saw out the remainder of the game to progress in the FA Cup.

YACHTSMEN SURRENDER LEAD AS HAMBLE ADVANCE IN FA CUP
Cowes Sports surrendered a first-half lead as Hamble Club came from behind to knock the Yachtsmen out of the FA Cup at the Diverse Marine Stadium.
The Yachtsmen broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Cook found the net to put the home side in front (1-0).
Hamble drew level in the 39th minute following a corner from the right. Barrow’s delivery found Sanders at the back post, with his header finding the empty net to restore parity (1-1).

Hamble completed the turnaround 9 minutes after the restart, again doing the damage from a corner. Barrow delivered from the left and Hamilton headed home to put the visitors ahead (1-2).
Cowes came close to drawing level in the 70th minute when they broke through the Hamble defence, but the resulting effort curled onto the top of the crossbar.
The Yachtsmen remained just a goal behind until the closing stages, when Hamble made certain of their place in the next round. Yeomans played Gange through one-on-one with Ed Hatt, with the Hamble player slotting past the Cowes goalkeeper in the 88th minute (1-3).
