A woman suffered a puncture wound to her arm during a dog attack on a residential street in Ryde yesterday evening (Wednesday), prompting a Police investigation.
It was at just gone 18:30 that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was alerted to an incident on the High Street in Oakfield.
It’s understood that a large dog on the loose attacked a local woman, resulting in injuries to her arm. She attended St Mary’s Hospital for treatment shortly after.
A smaller dog was also injured in the incident, suffering injuries to its leg.
Police say they have spoken to all parties involved in this incident and the matter remains ongoing at this time.
This fresh incident comes just weeks after a man suffered facial injuries in a dog attack on the other side of Ryde, in the vicinity of Weeks Road.
It is also understood that a serious incident in Haylands on 12th March involved dogs.
What does the law say about such incidents?
It’s an offence to let a dog be dangerously out of control, whether that’s in public or private.
A dog is considered to be out of control if it injures someone or makes someone worried that it might injure them.
Anyone with concerns about a dangerous dog should contact police on 101. Dial 999 in the event of an emergency.
owner should be prosecuted ..dog possible put down..
Dogs are innocent, their owners are too
blame.
Put the owner down, it is not the dogs
thought they are not cared for by being
on a lead.
The smaller dog that was injured in this incident was mine. My stepson was walking him when we got a call from him about the attack.
I have to say, the owner of the other dog was great. She took my dog and myself to the emergency vet. She paid for his treatment and also said she will pay for any further treatment, if necessary.
We are disheartened by this situation as she is.
I hope the lady who got her arm bitten is OK now? And openly give full consent for Derren to forward my personal email address to the person who helped my stepson, and was bitten herself, to have personal contact.
It is under my understanding, the aggressor dog may be euthanized tonight.
No-one wins out of this.
A lady with injuries,
Our dog with injuries,
A dog being euthanized.
Any numpty dog owner who does not
have their dog on a lead should be fined
heavily and not be allowed to own a dog.
I always keep my dog on a lead at all
times.
