Firefighters are tackling a vehicle fire in Northwood near Cowes this afternoon (Saturday).
1 appliance from Newport has been mobilised to the scene on Newport Road, close to the Northwood Stores.
Island Echo is told a green van is well alight.
Motorists should avoid the area for the time being whilst emergency services deal with the immediate incident.
It’s the second time today that the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has been called to Northwood. At just before 06:00, crews dealt with a barn fire off Pallance Lane.
UPDATE @ 20:22 – It has emerged that local firm MetroRod were passing the scene as the fire developed. Using their small amount of onboard water and a high pressure lance, they were able to help extinguish the fire ahead of the arrival of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
The VW T4 camper has a severely damaged engine bay, but the rest of the vehicle has been saved thanks to the quick actions of the passing MetroRod van.
Most will be more interested to know if they were local and if it was essential!
