Isle of Wight St John Ambulance volunteer Glen Abbott has been recognised for his outstanding leadership and dedication after helping the Island team deliver more than 1,600 hours of first aid provision.
Glen received a Certificate of Appreciation during an awards ceremony at the Royal Yacht Squadron last week (1st September).
The award was presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Mrs Susie Sheldon, on behalf of St John Ambulance, by County Commissioner Fizz Thompson.
It recognised Glen’s contribution to volunteering, community resilience and first aid provision across the Isle of Wight.
He was among a number of recipients from the Blue Light Services honoured during the evening for their commitment to serving local communities.
Glen was recognised for his leadership, commitment and dedication to St John Ambulance during a period of significant organisational change.
Following a national reorganisation, he stepped forward to become Network Lead, providing stability, direction and support to volunteers.
Under his leadership, the Isle of Wight team delivered more than 1,600 hours of first aid provision across a wide range of community events.
Youth volunteer numbers also increased by 30%, helping to develop the next generation of St John Ambulance volunteers on the Island.
Glen has also supported efforts to strengthen community resilience through first aid education, with more than 275 people on the Isle of Wight receiving emergency first aid training through initiatives he supported.
