Pupils at Priory School of Our Lady of Walsingham have been recognised for their academic achievements, progress and friendship during the school’s annual Prize Day, held at the historic St Mildred’s Church in Whippingham.
The special occasion brought together pupils, staff and parents, alongside former students who completed their GCSEs during the summer and were invited back to collect awards.
The ceremony took place in the impressive surroundings of St Mildred’s Church, which was designed by Prince Albert, who also designed Priory School.
Prizes were awarded across each form to recognise pupils who had excelled academically, made significant progress or demonstrated outstanding friendship towards others.
A number of cups, shields and trophies were also presented, many of which have been donated over the years in memory of former teachers and pupils.
These awards recognise achievements in individual subjects, as well as contributions to the wider school community.
Among the more unusual awards is a History plate named in honour of legendary wartime singer Dame Vera Lynn, whose great-grandchildren previously attended the school.
Dame Vera herself even presented prizes at the school’s annual ceremony on one occasion.
One of this year’s standout winners was Eliza P, from S5, who received the Brooks Priory Star for outstanding performance following her role in Aladdin at Medina Theatre last December.
Recipients of the school’s cups and trophies are able to keep their awards for a year before returning them for the next Prize Day, while those receiving Friendship Awards are allowed to keep theirs permanently.
The annual event provided an opportunity for the school community to come together and celebrate the achievements and contributions of its pupils.
