Between 2-5cm of snow is expected to fall across the Isle of Wight this weekend as the ‘Mini Beast from the East’ causes temperatures to plummet.
According to the IW MET Service, snow flurries may give a dusting over high ground throughout today (Saturday) with further snow showers expected tonight and into Sunday morning.
It’s likely that overnight showers will become persistent – and possibly heavy for a time – with 2-5cm of snow possible in some places.
Northeasterly winds could cause some drifting at times, especially in more exposed Southern and Western parts of the Island. Wind is expected to gust at around 30mph and will make for an intense wind chill.
Local forecaster Jamie Russell of IW MET Service says there is also the risk of ice/black ice both tonight and Sunday night due to the freezing of melting snow and/or field run off from the recent heavy rainfall. The highest risk of ice is in Central and Western parts of the Island, especially in more rural areas or where the roads and pavements haven’t been treated.
The Met Office have a yellow weather warning in place for snow and ice.
