Dimbola Museum and Galleries recently hosted a 2nd talk on the exhibition ‘Experience the Isle of Wight Festival 2002 to 2023’ with Mark Cooper, ex-head of music at the BBC, and creator and Producer of ‘Later…with Jools Holland’.
The show was loved by everyone and the evening raised over £300 for the Julia Margaret Cameron Trust, the charity that keeps Dimbola open for us all to enjoy.
Mark was interviewed by Dr Brian Hinton, Chair of Dimbola, on his career and told the story of how ‘Later…with Jools Holland’ came into being – a revolutionary studio music programme when it began 30 years ago; its unwavering popularity has proved the test of time.
As Mark said:
“It was a joy to share tales of the likes of Iggy Pop, Seasick Steve and Adele on the studio floor of the legendary Later …with Jools Holland show to a keen crowd at the equally legendary Dimbola.
“Great to talk about these ground-breaking artists in a house dedicated to the legacy of both the great Isle of Wight festivals and Julia Margaret Cameron. Now my book on my time running the show, subtitled 30 Years of Music, Magic & Mayhem is coming out in paperback.”
“It was another fabulous evening and Mark’s talk was very amusing and insightful, giving us all a window into the way in which ‘Later… ‘ works – or doesn’t sometimes!” said Jo Macaulay, Creative Director of ‘Experience the Isle of Wight Festival 2002 to 2023’. “Mark’s talk was a triumph and I’d like to say a particular thank you to Tony who came over from Bonchurch to do all the sound and vision – the clips from the show were great.”
Mark’s book ‘Later…With Jools Holland: 30 Years of Music, Magic & Mayhem’ is available from all good booksellers, including our partners Medina Publishing in Cowes, and a limited number of signed copies are available at the Dimbola shop.
