StoneCrabs International Theatre Company are due back on the Isle of Wight this summer with an arresting double bill of plays: ‘Tieta, The Trial’ and ‘Some Kind Of Love Story’.
These 2 thought-provoking and subversive plays could not have more contemporary relevance. The programme has been showcased at Quay Arts already but will be making its way to the Ventnor Fringe Festival between 9th-12th August. The shows also play at The Groundlings Theatre in Portsmouth and the Marylebone and Soho Theatres in London.
‘Tieta, The Trial’ is a dark, comic play, adapted from the Brazilian novel ‘Tieta do Agreste’ by Nobel Prize nominee Jorge Amado. Featuring live music, storytelling and dance, Tieta takes the audience on an emotional rollercoaster where fact and fiction become intertwined.
‘Some Kind of Love Story’ is written by Arthur Miller, famous for celebrated plays such as ‘The Crucible’ and ‘Death of A Salesman’ and for marrying Marilyn Monroe.
Inspired by the 1940s and 50s film noir genre, ‘Some Kind of Love Story’ is a dramatic gem: former lovers Angela and Tom meet one night to discuss the Felix Epstein case, which Tom has been trying to crack for 5 years. He is convinced Angela has privileged information, therefore holding the key to the innocent Felix’s release from prison. But Angela will not tell. Is Tom ready for the truth? Miller hits back at the themes of American justice and the search for truth in a tale of corruption, drugs, power and abuse.
