A 37-year-old man from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of fraud by abuse of position as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities at Ryde Marina.
Island Echo revealed in December 2025 that Police had launched an investigation into alleged employee fraud at the marina, which is operated by Ryde Town Council. The probe is understood to relate to thousands of pounds of public money, in the region of £60,000.
A recent Ryde Town Council officer report states that alleged financial irregularities were discovered at the marina in October 2025.
The report says there were “clear financial procedures in place to protect the council’s funds”, with training for relevant staff having been refreshed in April 2025.
Despite these measures, the report claims a breach of process occurred and fraud was committed.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed the man has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

At last!
Yet no news of the persons who made millions of pounds
from the PPE scandal during the pandemic, no news about
all the persons who got money when Rishi was in office
by setting up Companies that never existed or any news about
politicians who forgot to pay stamp duty etc etc
It’s a strange old world.
That’s my rant for the morning, off out to walk the dog
and grab an extortionate priced coffee.
Exactly, Mone still getting away with millions of tax payers money, that is even being pursued
From what you read day in day out people commit
all types of crimes, but the so called authorities are only
concerned when it is fraud related, obviously not if a
so called person of importance commits a fraud related
crime though, nothing happens to them!
Your choice nobody forces you to purchase the coffee
What a cavalier attitude from RTC. Simply covered the stealing, by adding another £170000.00 to this years Council Tax.
A very expensive council, who lose money with there vanity projects.
Isn’t the real fraud here that someone thought it was a good idea to build a marina at the dry end of Ryde sands?
