Police have launched an investigation into the alleged theft of tens of thousands of pounds from the public purse relating to employee fraud at Ryde Marina.
It is claimed that as much as £60,000 may have been siphoned off from operations at Ryde Marina – money that should be funding vital services in Ryde.
Island Echo understands that concerns were raised about missing money earlier this year, which led to Ryde Town Council appointing a third party to carry out an internal investigation.
The result of that investigation led an escalation, in line with the Town Council’s internal procedures, with the matter subsequently reported to Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary.
It has been confirmed by Police that an investigation is underway into alleged employee fraud.
However, no arrests have been made at this time.
Enquiries are ongoing.
A spokesperson for Ryde Town Council has said:
“The Council would like to assure the public that the matter was dealt with swiftly and appropriately as soon as it was brought to the Council’s attention and that normal operations have resumed at the Marina.
“The Council would like to stress that the matter is now subject to an ongoing Police Investigation and therefore we cannot provide any further information at this time”.

Well, well. Deceit on council premises. There’s a novelty.
deposit monies for the town hall perchance ?.
Bad news. Hope the shortfall is not added onto the very expensive council tax precept.
Almost like the Cowes harbour commissioners
Fraud? In Ryde? Surely not?
