Step access to the beach at Alum Bay is to remain closed during the busy half-term period. The decision has been made on the grounds of health and safety to protect the general public. It’s said that the Isle of Wight Council has been monitoring the beach steps overlooking The Needles very closely and is now concerned about the potential for further landslips and coastal erosion. Although The Needles Landmark Attraction is open for the February half-term, it has been confirmed that the Chairlift will not re-open until Easter, after its winter maintenance has been completed. This means there is no access to the beach at all.

That’s a shame as kiddies like seeing the coloured sands. Perhaps if they were to use Gabion cages to construct the steps they would be no slip, drain water through, and if stainless last decades. Quick to fit, and moveable if the steps are in danger of being covered by moving land.
So, they won’t be used by this Council.
That sound far too sensible for our council to do.
