Local sporting legend, Matthew Le Tissier has offered to lend his support to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to front the Kilimanjaro challenge that is taking place in February next year to raise much needed funds for the Air Ambulance.
At nearly 6,000m, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain and the six day trek is not for the faint hearted. However, anyone who is reasonably fit should be able to make the ascent.
The Former Southampton Football Club player, Matt is keen to support the local charity and is pleased to have been asked to front this particular appeal, he said:
“I am delighted to support Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance with their charity event to climb Mount Kilimanjaro on 7th February 2015. Maintaining this invaluable service which is very often lifesaving is absolutely vital and I would like to urge you to offer your kind and generous support wherever possible”.
The team that is taking on this once in a lifetime challenge to climb to the roof of Africa in order to raise money for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is looking for ways to raise money throughout the year.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Community Fundraiser, James King, who will be taking part, will be there to spur participants on when the going gets tough, and to offer training and fundraising tips throughout 2014. James commented:
“Having Matthew Le Tissier involved in this campaign is hopefully going to give it the boost we need to get more people aware and more people donating money”.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance receives no government, statutory or National Lottery funding for operational purposes, relying entirely on the generosity of the people and businesses of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to keep the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives.
