The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are advising Island residents to check their electricity consumer units for signs of charring following a fire in Ryde on Monday.
As previously reported by Island Echo, 2 appliances were called to Esplanade Surgery after smoke was seen issuing from an outside fuse box. According to the service, the fuses and supply cable had melted causing a small fire which had spread to the wooden backboard.
Once the supply was isolated by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks the fire was extinguished using a dry powder extinguisher and bucket of water.
A spokesperson for IWFRS has said:
“This set up is common in many domestic houses so we are advising people to check their consumer units for signs of charring”.
