UPDATED: 2 appliances from Ryde Fire Station are attending a small electrical fire on the Esplanade this afternoon (Monday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to reports of an issue with an electrical box outside Esplanade Surgery and a block of flats above at 13:50.
Crews are currently inspecting the mains box, which is situated on the outside wall of the doctor’s surgery.
The surgery has been closed as a result of the incident.
Engineers from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks have been called to the scene.
UPDATE @ 15:30 – Power to the surgery remains turned off this afternoon, meaning all non-urgent appointments have been cancelled.
Anyone who has an urgent appointment booked – and still feels it is urgent – should head to Tower House on Rink Road/Monkton Street.
Esplanade Surgery is expected to re-open as normal tomorrow (Tuesday).
