Spectators who prefer to enjoy carnival parades without loud noise from bands and floats are invited to a ‘Quiet Zone’ at Sandown Illuminated Carnival on Wednesday evening (30th August).
Music and sound will be turned down when the procession passes along Royal Crescent, a 160-metre stretch of the route in the west of the town.
Sandown Carnival spokesperson Paul Coueslant, has said:
“People who usually avoid parades because of the noise have told us they welcome the chance of a quieter experience, and we’re pleased to offer that for the first time”
The introduction of Quiet Zones at Island Carnivals has been supported by Arts Council England.
The Illuminated Carnival sets off from Sandown Library at 20:30 on Wednesday 30th August

A good idea, other carnivals should do the same & have a quiet zone.
Good grief! Just hand out some ear plugs.
another example of todays society that promotes fragility and teaches people to depend on the state rather than themselves.
if you cannot handle noise and wish to watch the procession – take some ear plugs or ear defenders with you, instead of expecting it to be turned down
selfish, weak, pathetic losers that cannot think for theirselves.
Have you ever thought that maybe some people have sensory issues, but still enjoy carnivals? Insulting them (like you have) just proves that you have no tolerance for neurodiversity at all.
Wouldn’t bother Dan, people on here are so narrow minded it’s impossible to argue with them.
Please explain what a sensitivity to noise has to do with depending on the state and not being able to think for yourself?
I only ask this as I have sensory issues but yet I have a full time job live on my own and pay all my own bills without any benefits or help.
This is a great idea but if its not for you then that’s fair enough. Just don’t stand in the quiet zone nobody has a gun to your head.
People in that area don’t like noise.thatvwhy…. mamby Pamby society
What if Im offended by bright lights?
Then don’t look at any bright lights
I despair at some peoples level of intellect
Show. Some. Compassion. There are a lot of readons for anxiety.
It’s only on for a couple of hours surely people can stand it after all it only happens about two times a year.
I am glad it’s over, these carnivals cause such a disruption to many Roads and Streets.
Carnivals should be held in Appley Park or Yaverland car Park
not causing mayhem on Island Roads
