Latest data from holidaycottages.co.uk has shown that the Isle of Wight has this month enjoyed an uptick in bookings as a destination for 2024 staycations. With the holiday lettings agency reporting a 54% increase in bookings compared with February last year, the uplift in bookings to the Isle of Wight happens to coincide with Series 2 of Channel 5’s 4-part series Isle of Wight: Jewel of the South, which first aired on 1st February. The week after the first episode aired, holidaycottages.co.uk reports that it saw a 50% increase and has continued to see at least a 39% year-on-year increase each week since then, which only looks set to continue. Analysis of Google Trends data over the last 30 days has also shown a huge spike on 8th February – which is when the second episode aired. Talking about rise in bookings, Hannah Cooper, Regional Head of Sales from holidaycottages.co.uk commented:
“Boasting beautiful countryside and 800 kilometres of coastal footpaths, there’s so much to see and do on the Isle of Wight. As a result, the island has always proven popular with holidaymakers so it’s great to see so many of our lovely holiday homes enjoying forward bookings for 2024. “While the spike in bookings can’t solely be attributed to the Channel 5 show, it has certainly played a big part in shining the spotlight on England’s biggest island which is easy to reach by ferry. The Isle of Wight is a fantastic place to visit, no matter the time of year and that’s reflected in the bookings currently being made. “We’ve seen an even split of 40 per cent of bookings taking place in spring (March/April/May) and 40 per cent taking place in summer (June/July/August), March and June are proving particularly popular with 15 and 16 per cent of the share. This is no doubt where people are looking to take advantage of the island just before the schools break up for summer.”

Let’s hope the viewers won’t be to disappointed when they see the real island with derelict sandown ,if I paid to come here based on the program I wouldn’t be happy
Got to ask, what is wrong with the word “increase” in the title instead of “up” this and “up” that?
Boy are they gonna be disappointed, and realise the so called TV show just cherry picked, especially ifthey are staying in sandown
Beirut looks better than Sandown, or even Ukraine
My message to people thesedays why visit the isle of Wight
50p to use toilets
24/7 364 days a year parking charges
G’estapo Enforcement Officers everywhere making holidaymakers and locals
lives hell by slapping parking tickets on them.
Roads closed everywhere and what IDIOT places the Road Signage to confuse motorists
need a good talking to.
Most expensive Ferry Fare in the world per mile, not to mention it only runs
when it suits the Ferry Operator.
Finally smell of Cannabis everywhere and speeding motorists on the island
is totally unacceptable, there are NO speed cameras to stop them.
Go elsewhere a place that welcomes you, not a place that screes you over.
Free Parking in Whitby for many months of the year
50% increase in pissed off holibobs and they will want 100% refund, and will file a claim of misrepresentation against Channel 5’s “Jewel of the South” I like “easy to reach by ferry”, if they are running. What a great chance to visit the south of the island and cause more destruction to the already decaying roads and coastline. This is part ad, part news, tsk tsk.Is it really needed to have 4 links to holidayblottidges ???
I like the bit “easy to reach by ferry” especially after just wasting three hours at Southampton as my 9 p.m ferry was cancelled at short notice and waiting for the 23:55 sailing.
The island is beautiful and you should all feel privileged to live here. If you actually dislike it so much, you should consider moving elsewhere but I can assure you that the island is a great place to live.
Yes back in the 70s and 80s it was still a nice place.
Now it is full of drink and drug drivers and you can smell Cannabis down most
Roads.
Well said James
Your easily pleased!!
Don’t kid yourself, the island is no more beautiful that any other county in the UK. In fact the island countryside is let down by its tatty towns and villages, and the residents who hoard rubbish in their front gardens.
I know Sandown is a bit run down in places but I love living here, lovely people, beautiful beach and close to downs.I feel very lucky to live here .
It won an award …turdtown top place so can’t be that bad….
We’d been holidaying in Sandown for almost every year for the last fifteen years. First in a wonderful, family run caravan site, that was sold, new owners honoured first years bookings but cancelled next years. Then Covid…then we returned for two years in the new premier inn which saw a weekly booking doubling in cost. Last year went to the Burlington Hotel which was half the cost of the premier inn. But nothing was open all the lovely little shops and cafes closed permanently or certainly after six. We are staying at home this year due to health issues but hope to come back but everywhere else on the island wants over £1000 for a weeks holiday!
Wait till they trun up and see how shit the island is bogs shut or 50p to piss roads like broken tracks towns looking like worn out dumps ferries canceld or arriving late..car parking charges through the roof..id go abroad have a nicer experience.
War zones are more inviting and you don’t have to pay
50p to have a P I S S
Look I know 50p to have a piss is expensive but it is much better value if you take a shit as well. Get your money’s worth I say.
For 50p someone might as well stay overnight in the bog
refuse to leave it.
No Council tax to pay and free water and sewage
Bargain
I think you are on to something John. All I need is a camping stove to cook the seagulls on.
How lovely the holiday homes will be full while the housing waiting list gets longer and more houses built to lie in waiting for next year’s holiday makers!
