Assistant Chief Constable Maggie Blyth of Hampshire Constabulary has said that her officers will do all that they can to keep the communities of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight safe following the re-introduction of national lockdown restrictions.
With the county now under lockdown until at least mid-February and possibly as late as the end of March, ACC Maggie Blyth has said:
“The re-introduction of national lockdown restrictions will be challenging to many in our communities across Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight, who have done all they can to limit the spread of Covid-19 and support the NHS throughout 2020. I’d like to thank them all for their concerted efforts in such challenging times, please keep this up so that the country is able to capitalise on the optimism that a new year brings following this period of national restrictions.
“In return our officers will do all that they can to keep our communities safe. We will continue to follow the tried and tested approach of engaging, explaining and encouraging people to comply with the restrictions. However I have emphasised to our teams that robust enforcement action should be taken as required, where blatant breaches in public places or private premsies are reported to us.
“The message is simple, you should be staying at home, it’s vital that everyone understands this and observes the restrictions in place. However we do recognise that home doesn’t always mean safety for everyone. We want you to know we are there for those of you that need us. There are individuals and children that will continue to suffer from the impact of abuse, both physical and mental, during the government restrictions. This is worse during a period behind closed doors where contact with other people like friends and family is restricted. Anyone who is facing abuse or harm should call 999. If you’re not in a position to speak press 55 and our controllers will know what to do. We are there for you, please call us if you need us in an emergency.
“You can also call Hampshire Domestic Abuse Service on 03300 165112 or Stay Safe East on 0208 519 7241 to get confidential help.
“Limiting the spread of infection is everybody’s responsibility, and not just down to the police or enforcement. We will continue to work with our health colleagues, businesses, government, hospitality owners, local authorities, universities, and others, as we ensure that we all play our part in keeping our communities as safe as possible throughout the pandemic”.

Well, not quite everything: discouraging illegal travel? Combating the recent rise in boy racers?
2021 was promised as a year of hope and restored freedoms, yet we seem to be spiralling into more draconian society by the day. Now police are promising to question us for daring to step outside our own homes.
When did you last see the police doing their job
When YOU need them. Same old story, knock the old bill from your ivory tower but when you have had your bicycle clips knicked you’ll be begging for thier help.
Police are not police anymore! The last 10 years they have become the government’s bullies. They are not interested in real crime, only political crime against the liars (government) and they will be given more powers to keep us all locked in our houses forever, Unless you do as your ordered to do! No? We will see!
They have become like the Stasi…
If they had done everything to protect the Isle of Wight in December, then we would not be in the mess we are in.
the volume of foot and vehicle travel up and down carisbrooke rd is a lot more than school days where is it all going i thought there is lockdown in force
Likely going to get their vaccinations – there is a surgery nearby
Lip service, no more. Don’t expect to see officers actually doing their job, do you?
No, when do they
Don’t worry folks, if the white paper goes through parliament soon, about changing civil liberties, you could be seeing alot more of the brown shirts,oh sorry the police! This law would give the police the power to enter your house and detain you on ,ready? The suspicion of having covid! You people that want to give more power to the police, well this is what you will have to put up with.well done!!
Some people need to take responsibility for themselves and their off spring. The Police aren’t a free child care service, disciplinarians, Carers etc.
So it happened today in Scotland, just like I said it would.police forced their way in to a family’s house because they were reported at having people in their house which their did not, then arrested the upset mother in front of her two children. Police in Scotland given power to do this! Next UK?
The damage was done over the New Year and Christmas period with an influx of visitors visiting what they perceived as being a “low risk area”. These are just showing up in the newest figures, with The Island now having similar case numbers per head of population as East London. Sadly, this was predicted but those in charge still permitted freedom of movement between hotspot areas and The Island.
If this doesn’t wake you up nothing will! The covid intelligence bill is going through parliament at the moment, this will allow children to be used as spies for the government ,even on their on parents! Wow! Still think this is all about a virus? I’m sure someone will agree it’s a good idea . Welcome 2021
That the Bill represents a significant expansion of the existing policy, by making authorised criminal conduct ‘lawful for all purposes’. This would bypass prosecutors, thus eroding the separation of powers and removing the ability of independent prosecutors to bring prosecutions where it is in the public interest
That the Bill would prevent victims from seeking redress by protecting those who commit authorised crimes from civil liability. They suggest that the Bill would also prevent victims from seeking compensation under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme.
MI5 and the law enforcement community have welcomed the Bill
