Cross-Solent ferry operators Wightlink and Red Funnel have this week both announced the appointment of new members to their respective teams.
Wightlink has recruited a new Head of Retail, Dan Haynes, who is now responsible for the 14 cafés and shops onboard ferries and at ports throughout the company.
Dan’s career began with a job at House of Fraser in his home town of Shrewsbury, followed by other posts in retail and hospitality. He then joined Southern Co-Op where he worked for 13 years, most recently as Area Manager with responsibility for stores along the South Coast and on the Isle of Wight.
Dan says:
“I share Wightlink’s passion for buying locally. Feedback from our customers shows they appreciate supporting local businesses and the quality of Island produce is second to none.
“We are proud to sell products from many excellent Isle of Wight companies and are working with them so they can grow their businesses with us and delight more customers.”
Meanwhile, Red Funnel has announced that it has appointed Lee Howes as its new Sustainability Officer, coinciding with an exciting push towards a greener, more sustainable future for the firm.
Lee’s role is focused on developing, implementing, and delivering a holistic Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy for Red Funnel, which will be at the forefront of operations, both now and in the future, ensuring the ferry company continues to serve the Solent for years to come.
Lee’s career has included roles at Stansted Airport and 14 years at Gatwick Airport, where he most recently held the role of Airspace and Environmental Performance Manager, before his appointment at Red Funnel.
Discussing his new appointment as Sustainability Officer at Red Funnel, Lee Howes, said:
“It is an exciting time to be joining Red Funnel as we work hard to develop and implement our renewed ESG strategy. The business is at a pivotal moment and it’s great to be part of the team setting the scene for the future. I am looking forward to working with the team and putting my experience and skillset into action, I feel my time and transferable experience from the aviation sector places me in the perfect position for this role.”

I was expecting Master Bates and Seaman Stains but got this pair.
Anybody else got a new job that we also won’t be interested in hearing about?
It’s the same difference.
but never enough staff for certains crossings huh.?weird that.these two jobsworths are just a waste of money no doubt.still be run like the shambles these ferries should get an award for ….best unrelable overpriced useless service award
Yes, they should have both invested in more ferry crew people instead of cancelling sailings due to staff shortages.!
What wonderful firms to work for, lucky them
Who cares…. BUILD the bridge
Less sustainability officers, please and more staff on the ground! Preferably ones that aren’t sickly every 10 seconds
