Changes to parking restrictions covering more than 50 locations across the Newport and Carisbrooke area are included in a new consultation published by the Isle of Wight Council.
The proposals originated through suggestions made by members of the public or local councillors and will be available for public to comment until 3rd November.
The consultation contains details of draft Traffic Regulation Orders – these usually relate to changes to traffic issues such as double yellow lines, one-way streets or no right or left turns.
Councillor Phil Jordan, leader of Isle of Wight Council and cabinet member for Transport encouraged residents and businesses to respond to the consultation:
“It really can make a difference – and we are listening. In the last few rounds of consultations on traffic orders, public comment has led to proposals being amended or withdrawn as has been the case in Cowes and Binstead recently, so please do get involved – we look forward to hearing what you have to say.”
Isle of Wight Council works with Town, Parish and Community Councils and local ward councillors to ensure proposals that are generated and reach this stage have already had some degree of public support.
Comments of support and objections can only be legally considered if a full address is given whether the response comes in by letter, email or by online survey.

How can he even have the temacity to comment on anything to do with roads!? A convicted drunk driver telling others how and when to park, he makes out Trumpton Council look even more insane than they already were!.
Temerity? Audacity? Temacity isn’t a word – predictive text, maybe? Tenacity means ‘a firm grip’ on something, or persistence.
Unless it is going to be enforced it is an absolute waste of time and money, once all the legal parking places have gone residents then park on the double yellow lines or in the car charging bays, happens in my road every day, never see any of the cars ticketed for it either. I am sure the costs involved could be better spent elsewhere.
You can report it as well: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/police-forces/hampshire-constabulary/areas/hants-snap/hantsnap/hants-snap—report-an-incident/
“Introduce no waiting at any time, Reason: to prevent parking in this location” k
They don’t stop people blocking the pavement. So why they think this will change anything?
They could not stop a bus at a bus stop.
How can he come out with this bilge about “listening” when he oversaw the debacle of the Ryde interchange with its green bike lane to nowhere and who would ever have thought it wasn’t a good idea to force pier traffic to join the main road round a 90 degree bend on a roundabout and at a pedestrian crossing.
Well said, that pier exit is ridiculous, if a qualified highway engineer came up with that he needs to go back to college
I assumed it was designed by a child on work experience.
Shush. I love that pier exit. At last even the most overconfident drivers have to drive carefully.
I shouldn’t have to drive carefully, the pedestrians should be moved somewhere else
The council always says it will listen to views of the public whenever such consultations go out before any major change is done. Who actually believes them? They have already made up their minds irrespective of what the long suffering public thinks. God help us all!!!
Change all the road layouts back to how they use to be in the 90’s when traffic actually moved and free parking for 2 hours no return and free after 6pm and see businesses flourish on the high street.
Err! Think things have changed a bit since then!
Oh the good old days. Jumpers for goalposts. I wish I’d seen that mystical idyll
Can we have our old roundabout back at St Mary’s, never used to get so many hold ups unlike now with all these traffic lights.
Only a matter of time before a Congestion charge is brought to
Newport.
