An emergency closure has been put in place on Melville Street in Sandown this morning (Wednesday) from its junction with Broadway to its junction with Royal Crescent for a distance of 67 metres.
This is to enable Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks to locate a Low Voltage Mains fault, excavation & works to repair the fault, restore existing supplies, backfill and reinstate.
An alternative footway route will be provided due to needing to close the footway, also.
The diversion will affect these streets: Melville Street, Fitzroy Street, Station Avenue, Albert Road, Victoria Road, High Street, Beachfield Road, Broadway.
Diversion route(s) will be signed at the time of closure. Reasonable facilities will be provided to allow access to adjacent premises while the road is closed.
From 12:21 hours on 26th October 2020, for a maximum period of five days or until the works are complete, whichever is sooner.
Southern Vectis has said:
“Owing to Melville, Sandown being closed for emergency works, routes 2, 3 and 8 will divert via Broadway to Station Avenue. Melville and Fitzroy Street will not be served.”
If you have any queries regarding the above please contact Island Roads on 01983 822440.
Copies of all traffic orders may be viewed on the public notices website isleofwight.roadworks.org.
* Please note that the closure period of the order stated above is for legal reasons. In most scenarios, works are normally completed much sooner than the 5 or 21-day order. However, if the works do overrun, a new, updated order will be issued and published on Island Echo.
