A man in his 70s has sadly died after suffering a suspected heart attack whilst at sea off the coast of Yarmouth.
Emergency services were called to the incident shortly after 10:00 this morning when the man’s boat ran aground on the shingle just off Fort Victoria Country Park at Westhill Lane.
Despite the efforts of paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, and later officers from HM Coastguard, the man’s life couldn’t be saved.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has confirmed that Coastguard Rescue Teams from The Needles and Ventnor were mobilised to the incident, alongside Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat.
Yarmouth Harbour authorities were also notified.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Officers attended along with our colleagues from the RNLI, HM Coastguard and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and located a man in his 70s on-board the boat.
“Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the man sadly died at the scene.
“His family have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner”.
Smile be nice and cheerful, you never know. RIP
It looks like he was fishing at the time,so hopefully he died happy ,RIP sir .Condolences to his family
RIP. What is also a tragedy is the boat is still there and being smashed on the shore by the wind and waves. I Don’t get why it has been left to be an environmental mater when it brakes up and fuel and oil leaks into the sea.
