Independent lifeboat crews from Ryde, Sandown and Freshwater will be among around 65 nationwide joining forces tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday for the annual Go Orange Day, to help raise funds and awareness for the independent lifeboat stations.
Ryde Inshore Rescue, Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat and Freshwater Independent Lifeboat are all independent, life-saving organisations who rely on donations and charity to continue the valuable work on the waters around the Island.
Often the independent lifeboats are confused with the work carried out by the RNLI, so the 23rd/24th March has been put in the diary to raise awareness of the vital independents.
The crews, who are all volunteers who give their time and effort for free, want Island businesses, schools and individuals to donate where they can and turn the Island orange.
Ryde Inshore Rescue will be at Ryde Pier Head and Hovertravel from 06:30 tomorrow morning, before moving to Anthony Minghella Square in Ryde Town from 09:00. On Saturday they will take up position at Busy Bee Garden Centre from 09:00-16:00.
Meanwhile Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat will be based in Regent Street, Shanklin tomorrow (Friday), as well as at Morrisons in Lake.
On Sunday, Ryde Inshore Rescue will be dusting off the table clothes and opening a Go Orange cafe at the Appley based station from 10:00, with a selection of homemade cakes, tea and coffee.
“We want everyone to know that we are independent, and need funding to keep going. If you visit the coast for a day out or holiday you never know when you may have to call upon Lifeboat volunteers, so to ensure that they are there please show your support”.
