Pluto’s Cafe at Browns Golf Course in Sandown will not reopen after all, it has been announced.
The news was confirmed in a Facebook post shared by Browns Golf Course, bringing an end to plans to reopen the café on 28th July following a temporary closure for essential works.
In an emotional statement, current operator Paul Saville said the decision had been made with an “incredibly heavy heart” and described it as one of the hardest things he had ever had to write.
He said he had poured his “heart, soul, time and energy” into trying to keep the café going, but had ultimately concluded that it could no longer continue in its previous form.
Paying tribute to staff past and present, Paul reserved special praise for Lisa, whom he described as both a close friend and a huge part of what made the café special.
Paul Saville said:
“For me, the café was Lisa.
“Everything I did there was driven by a desire to support her, to create something special that we could build together.”
Despite the closure of Pluto’s Cafe, Browns Golf Course itself will continue to operate, with the golf shop remaining open.
The venue will also continue to be available for events, with charity functions hosted free of charge and birthday parties, wakes and other private events available at reduced rates.
Paul said:
“Finally, thank you to everyone who supported the café, walked through the doors, shared a laugh, had a coffee, or simply believed in what we were trying to create.
“You will never know how much that meant to me.”
Although the main café will no longer operate as before, Browns Golf Course says it will continue trying new ideas throughout the summer, including barbecues outside the golf shop and other community events.
