
VIDEO: Island communities came together to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday yesterday (Thursday) with the lighting of beacons across the Island and even free cups of tea.
At Carisbrooke Castle a service was held by the Royal British Legion to mark the monarch’s milestone with local cadet groups, dignitaries and bands giving three cheers to The Queen. God Save The Queen was played by Wight Diamonds marching band and standards were lowered.
Over at Culver Down, locals gathered for the lighting of the beacon high upon the hill as organised by Bembridge Parish Council.
In Yarmouth, a beacon was lit on the common by town mayor Steve Cowley with a strong turnout of supporters, including those donning the red, white and blue colours of the United Kingdom.
Earlier in the day Osborne House offered free cups of team for visitors arriving via Red Funnel and a party was held by the Shanklin community
