Those with family and friends living with dementia or Alzheimer’s are being urged to complete a ‘Herbert Protocol’ form, to assist Police and search volunteers in the event they go missing. The initiative is named after George Herbert, a war veteran of the Normandy landings, who lived with dementia. He died whilst missing, trying to find his childhood home. The Isle of Wight’s Police Search Advisors and WightSAR – the voluntary search and rescue team – are asking for your help in aiding their response to high risk missing persons. Islanders are being asked to complete the ‘Herbert Protocol’ form. By downloading and filling in this form, in the event you report the person missing, you can simply hand the completed form over to the attending officer. This will save critical time and allow Police to develop a quicker search response. The form is available at https://www.hampshire.police.uk/notices/af/herbert-protocol/.

Excellent, thankyou.
As this thieving condition becomes evermore common, we need all the help we can get as a carer, relative or spouse.
What a brilliant idea.
