Treehouses, safari lodges and tiny homes are all part of plans unveiled for an ‘eco-friendly retreat’ near Yarmouth.
Plans have been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council for ‘The Woodlands’, next to Lucketts Farm at Lee Copse — a glamping proposal from Alan Short and Simon Hirst of Acorn Properties IOW.
Their aim is to open the resort, on the main road to Yarmouth, in Spring 2024.
Acorn Properties have owned the land for the last 3 years, and according to the woodlands’ website (www.thewoodlandsresort.co.uk), have restored and maintained the agricultural land and woodland.
Included in the plans for the tourism and leisure project are:
- spa/treatment rooms and sauna pods;
- a staff welfare barn;
- 15 treehouses;
- 8 safari lodges;
- 8 tiny homes;
- a restaurant;
- a cafe;
- bus stop improvements and associated infrastructure.
The resort’s website says it would be an all-encompassing holiday destination with unique accommodation, activities, classes, wedding venue and learning for young and old.
It is thought the proposals would create 50 full-time and 25 part-time jobs.

Why is this eco friendly, isn’t it more eco friendly to leave it for the native wildlife there. Greed is all this in aid of. Rip off prices to stay in a wood cabin on stilts, sad, very sad if your gullible enough to believe this rubbish about “Eco”
Green washing at it’s finest.
Ripping up the countryside and replacing it with a money spinning development is NOT “eco”. Just leave our Island alone ffs.
same old playbook….
develop it as some sort of eco business – which changes the land status from green to brown
add in…
8 tiny homes; – as indicated in the article…
a year or two later, when the eco venture fails, they submit planning application to build houses on the now, brownfield site, surrounding the 8 tiny homes, which would then be restructured to be 4 larger homes. voila, a new housing estate by the back door.
planners – refuse this sneaky plan, as it is just an excuse to destroy woodland, destroy the natural habitats of creatures to make money
The sooner IW Council gets its Housing Plan in place and thus out of the grips of “national policy”, the better. Of course that will require co-operation between various political factions, so don’t hold your breath.
New development and much needed employment. Sounds good to me.
8 Tiny homes……?
Surely, you mean 8 regular IW new build homes.
As they are tiny homes they must be affordable, surely…
50 Full time and 25 part time jobs ??????
Eco, bulls to the idea
learning for young and old? What does that mean, and 50 full time jobs? Pie in the sky rubbish
Rejected straight away, Access to and from the site is too dangerous
