Driving tests and lessons on the Isle of Wight have once again suspended as the country enters a third national lockdown.
This applies to lessons and tests being taken in cars and on motorcycles, including CBTs. Theory tests have also been knocked on the head for the time being.
The suspension has come into force today (5th January) and will remain in place until restrictions are lifted – expected to be mid-February.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has said:
“All driving and riding tests have been suspended from 5 January until the restrictions are lifted.
“We’ll email candidates who are affected by this to let them know we will reschedule their test.”
Back in March 2020 it was announced that driving tests were to be suspended for up to 3 months. Lessons and tests were suspended again from 5th November until 2nd December.

This is great news… really… because just maybe there won’t be so many accidents for awhile !!
JUST MAYBE… the people learning might actually buy the HIGHWAY CODE book and read it.. then they might have a clue as to what to expect… possibly might even learn a few things about how to drive,.
Oh so it’s only the learner’s who cause accidents is it? I thought it was more the people who pass a test and presume they can drive or more so the drivers who seam to be in a mad rush. Some people need to be able to take a test, especially critical workers in healthcare settings.
What a idiotic comment, most of the learners are probably better than the rest, in fact the amount that cut learners up,overtake etc, it wouldn’t surprise me if half the islanders won their license in a rice crispy box ..
Tests and driving lessons was cancelled as soon as we went into T4 on the island and not wnen we went into lockdown
Do people here actually ‘take’ a test? Looking at the carnage on the roads one could think not, all about to grow ever worse as thousands more homes and multiple thousands more cars are forced onto our narrow, bendy ill lit roads.
Whilst necessary, this is causing mayhem to both the good driving instructors and their pupils. With large gaps between driving lessons and driving tests, it is costing the pupils a fortune and stopping the proficient driving instructors taking on more learner drivers. Not a disaster, compared to what else is going on, but certainly another casualty of the pandemic. Very frustrating and expensive to all those involved.
Wow such stupid replies to me letter, guess they cannot read more the a few words.. My meaning was , now tests are cancelled, the students/learners, will have time to learn more about the HIGHWAY CODE… which in time will help reduce accidents… hopefully…
Too many learners just keep doing ‘mock exams’ on computers, mobiles, instead of reading the HIGHWAY CODE book !!
