A new event will bring the dancefloor to the daytime at Newport-based nightclub Fever. The event, dubbed ‘Sunday Skool’, will offer an afternoon clubbing experience for people who miss the party vibe but no longer want to dance ‘till dawn. The Island event, on 31st March, launches as day clubbing parties sweep Britain, including those put on by Trigger Point and Line of Duty actress Vicky McClure and her husband Jonny Owen. The organisers hope Sunday Skool will be one of many, with future events already being planned for the summer, Halloween, and Christmas. Sunday Skool promoter Kirsty Ruth said:
“Why should the island miss out on what is a hugely popular idea on the mainland? We’ve come up with Sunday Skool because it is the type of event we want to go to – a club where you can enjoy live DJs and great music from the 80s to the 2000s and still be back in time for dinner with the family – or a kebab before the bus home.”
The event will run from 14:00 to 19:00 on Easter Sunday for people aged 30 and over and is being put on in association with Xtreme Vertigo, promoters of themed discos on the Isle of Wight. The company is run by well-known local DJs Stuart Murray and Andy ‘Crabbie’ Crabb, who will be on the decks at Sunday Skool.
“Sunday Skool is for people like me who still love the idea of meeting friends and getting on the dancefloor but can’t face the idea of feeling rubbish the next day – although Sunday Skool is the day before a bank holiday just in case! It will be a great way for island people to celebrate past times in island clubs and for people to meet friends, old and new. “There will be a full bar for those who want it and plenty of touches to take people back to the days when you could win a bottle of fizz just for having a birthday and you could always count on a couple of slow dances at the end of the night. “There is no normal clubbing dress code for the event and partygoers are invited to wear ‘whatever makes you happy. “I hate having to think about outfits and so Sunday Skool has a ‘whatever makes you happy’ dress code. You definitely won’t be turned away for wearing jeans or trainers,’ Kirsty said. “If you want to get dressed up or wear your favourite tracksuit bottoms, do it. If you want to wear the type of clothes that you once wore for your nighttime clubbing, do that too. We might even have a few prizes for the best outfits! “This is an afternoon party to be enjoyed and so forget all the worries about getting taxis home, finding new clothes to wear, or finding babysitters that don’t mind staying until the early hours, Sunday Skool is all about beating the stress of everyday life and not adding to it.”
