CycleWight have announced that they’ve been successful in securing funding to commission a survey looking at the possibility of upgrading the path from Brading Station to Yarbridge.
The news comes after the cycling advocacy group applied for funding from the South Western Railway Customers and Communities Improvement Fund and is the 1st step for any work to begin on the footpath.
There is also positive news regarding the track at Blackwater which has been in a very poor condition for a long time. Island Roads and Isle of Wight Council have responded to concerns raised by CycleWight members and the issue is now being taken seriously with discussions being held at a senior level.
Finally, the 30th-anniversary celebrations of CycleWight were a great success at Merstone Station last Saturday (29th April) with a great attendance and bikes aplenty.

Ban it, waste of money. No point to ending up in Yarbridge, for what purpose?
Best spend money on lowering our council taxes not pandering to a few freeloading cyclist.
Perhaps if more people cycled there would be less pressure on the NHS due to a healthier population.
Rubbish, more broken bones, cuts, and accidents with cars would outweigh the benefits of keeping fit.
Also the amount of fuel wasted when being ‘stuck’ behind cycles is causing more pollution than a mere cyclist ever saves.
Just as Nimbys ‘suddenly’ care for a plant or creature they never had heard about, then those cyclists suddenly ‘care’ about others being fit when they are just freeloading and adding to OUR council tax to pay for their ‘hobby’
Wait until electic cycles fall into the hands of the scum, then most pathways will become places of terror for walkers with kids or elderly people and police can’t police the roads let alone all tracks here.
A lot of people come to this island to cycle. How much council tax do you think you’ll save? 10p for the year?
IMO, the issue is less the trail itself, than the steps you need to haul your bike up at the Yarbridge end. Likewise the trail from Yarbridge to Yaverland, there is insufficient room to navigate a cycle through.
Well done and thank you.
