More double yellow lines could be put in place in and around Newport as the Council proposes a number of new parking restrictions.
As previously reported by Island Echo, nearly 60 schemes have been proposed by the Isle of Wight Council to install new parking restrictions or vary them across Newport, Carisbrooke and Gunville.
The proposals have been drawn up, the authority says, after suggestions were made by members of the public or local councillors.
Draft traffic regulation orders (TROs) have recently been published for consultation and residents can have their say until 3rd November.
Along Clatterford Road, double yellow lines could be introduced in 3 new areas to provide suitable and safe passing places. On nearby Gunville Road, near the Forest Road junction, 2 sections of double yellows are proposed to prevent parking and improve road safety.
No waiting restrictions between Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00, could be introduced on a stretch of Carisbrooke Road to allow the free flow of traffic during peak hours.
To stop people from parking outside the Victoria Recreation Ground gates, double yellow lines are proposed on Recreation Ground Road.
On Wellington Road, bus stop restrictions could be added, limited waiting zones defined and no loading areas implemented to improve safety and traffic flow during school pick-up and drop-off times.
Outside the Island VI Form at Nodehill, on St John’s Place, the no waiting restrictions could be removed to add a limited waiting of 30 minutes with hopes of increasing parking places close to the town centre.
Other changes could also be made to restrictions on:
- Alvington Manor View
- Carisbrooke High Street
- Hinton Road
- Watergate Road
- Fairlee Road
- Linden Road
- Fairmont Drive
- Staplers Road
- Sylvan Drive
- Mayfield Drive
- Halberry Lane
- Queens Road
- Hunnyhill
- Crocker Street

It’s really important to keep yourself safe when using a pavement as sometimes cars are parked on pavements. For example, when I’m riding my skateboard, I will jump off to make sure I’m safe. The skateboard itself sometimes continues and bangs the car but it’s OK – the most important part is to keep humans safe, I can live with a scratch on my skateboard! It’s not worth risking your life by going head first into someone else’s 2000kg+ property left over in a place where it shouldn’t be. Stay safe!
It is about time IW Council imposed a total BAN on Pavement Parking
Islandwide.
London have the brains when it comes to SAFETY, they do not allow
vehicles to park on Pavements.
Come on Mr Jordan now you are in charge take control and make the
Island a safe place for everyone.
Supperb get the yellow pain laid! The forest rd/gunveil junction desperately needs double yellows, also claterford rd needs them all along! They all have either driveways or front gardens along there, rds are for driving on, not parking out side your driveways, once you have done Newport get over Cowes/Northwood, pallance rd needs them all the way down! And along near the Lidl where some bellend keeps parking his crap pickup in the rd!

The big problem with roads which have unlimited parking is that many cars just sit there day and night, and are hardly used. So people who need spaces for a visit or for a pick up or drop off can’t find anywhere to park. And now they just want to restrict even more so this makes the problem worse.
We live on a very small island that is overpopulated with too many vehicles
some households own more than 1 vehicle.
Some households own 1 vehicle for each person living in a property and
many households drive company vehicles, eg large Van’s etc
Such vehicles make it difficult for other households to drive off their
drives easily.
Large vehicles should not be allowed to be parked along Roads causing
obstructions to other households.
To deter the number of vehicles an household owns, their council tax
should be increased by the number of vehicles they own.
2 vehicle maximum, after that start paying.
Permit parking will solve the problem.
My nan always gets a bus to medina avenue newport- it still has a bus stop and sign but neither the council or southern vectis will enforce the bus stop. So cars park in it all day long. She nearly got hit by a push bike under taking the bus as it was in the centre of the road, and another occasion by a car!! Needless to say she has to get off at the bus station and walk back 10 minutes. Wish they would do something about things like that, it used to have double yellows up to the stop, god knows what happened.
I would double yellow line the majority of the Island,
too many “uneducated”idiots think they can park where they want
and get away with it.
It is 2023 why do IW Council not employ Clamping / Tow Truck Companies??
Any vehicle parking on Zig Zags, Pavements or Double Yellow Lines
should be clamped immediately and towed away to a compound.
Hefty fines and fees to retrieve vehicles breaking the law will be the
best deterrent.
This is also a great opportunity for IW Council to create employment
by employing such Companies.
Get Newchurch on the list, outside peddlers to old school lane is very dangerous.
oh dear. will island roads be doing the yellow lines.
40 mph zones, 20 mph zones, double yellow lines. Wonder when the council will ban car from the Island altogether?
Don’t give them any more daft arse ideas FFS
2030 is the year.
The W E F who Starmer said himself he prefers Davos than Westminster
will roll out a ULEZ scheme like Labour Khan done in London.
Starmer will roll it out countrywide when he is PM
Car Ferry Companies will go Bust.
they will never ban cars whilst drivers are treated like cash cows
Oh yes they will.
Perhaps ban on street parking and make car parks free but they wont do that as they make to much money from them .
The problem thesedays is vehicles are too big.
Back in the old days vehicles were much smaller and even the Garages
that were built with some Houses do not fit today’s size vehicle.
Many large SUV’s, Estate Cars and Van’s take up more than 1 space,
also being much wider they make the Roads and parking spaces much smaller.
I would tax vehicles by measurement size, also charge permit parking along Roads
Islandwide by Vehicle size just like the Ferry Companies charge more by vehicle size.
That will deter the Chelsea Tractor owners and Builders to own such vehicles.
NO ONE LIKES PAYING MORE
Bring in the £50 per tyre fine for parking on the footway, to many selfish people and delivery drivers as well as school run mums bumping up on the paths!!!
There seems to be no rules on the island.
Vehicles drive into NO right turn roads etc, nothing gets done about it.
I saw a vehicle this evening parked on a yellow box jct
Outside Daish Hotel in Shanklin, in a sensible location a camera would
have taken a photo of the vehicle and the owner of the vehicle would receive a
FINE in the post.
Also drove down Regent Street Shanklin vehicle parked fully on pavement near
Yummy Tummys totally blocking the pavement.
NO LAW AND ORDER ON THIS BACKWARD RUN ISLAND
Pallance Road in Northwood is an accident waiting to happen.
It’s is, it needs parking restrictions down the bottom past the pub, they park on both sides of the Rd, it’s stupid down their.
Health and Safety does not happen on the Island
If they reduced the charges in their car parks, there wouldn’t be so much on street parking. Went to Ryde about a week ago and was charged £6.50 for 4 hours parking and the carpark was only half full but all the onstreet parking was chockablock. No wonder the high street is dying.
Wellington Road has no parking restrictions apparently as the enforcement officers refused to patrol it.
Parking enforcement officers are too busy picking on
Holidaymakers and Locals who use Seafront car parks.
THEY ALLOW VEHICLES TO PARK ON PAVEMENTS AND ON
DOUBLE YELLOW LINES OUTSIDE SANDOWN PIER.
The Enforcement Officsrs on the Island are total Rubbish
NO WHERE ELSE AROUND THE COUNTRY WOULD EMPLOY SUCH
INDIVIDUALS WHO TURN A BLIND EYE!
I watched a female enforcement officer walk past and glance into a ryde taxi parked int the pay and display bays opposite the bowling alley and she did nothing despite the fact the scum hadn’t paid, they use those bays as their own private taxi rank throughout the day and the council know about it and do nothing to stop it.
That is what happens when you have a useless clueless Council.
I imagine they have relations working for the Council
Most Councils are a joke.
People might moan about Sadiq Khan, but he would have a field day on this
Lawless Island.
He would have vehicles clamped and Towed away if they broke the rules.
Parking permits, congestion charges and even a ULEZ charge for polluting
vehicles would be introduced on the Island.
Speed Cameras / islandwide Anpr would be rolled out.
The island is a soft touch when it comes to motoring rules.
If only the persons responsible for running the Island had what
Sadiq Khan has. (A Pair of B*lls)
I am fed up reading about all the motorists who break the rules
on a daily basis.
Also so many vehicles are driving around with “”NO”” Mot’s for months
not to mention all the motorists who jump Red Lights and drive whilst
using their phones.
There is a massive parking problem in the Hunnyhill area with a knock on affect in Albany ,Worsley and Whitesmith road’s. Taking away anymore parking in Hunnyhill will just make the problem worse. I assume councilor Andrew Garret will address this issue at the next meeting ?
What’s next? New larger more expensive carparks?
