Specialist officers from the mainland were drafted in to undertake the complex, multi-agency recovery of a body from a caravan in Shanklin this evening (Sunday).
Emergency services were called to an address on Witbank Gardens on Saturday night, where an individual was sadly pronounced deceased.
Due to the circumstances and location of the death, an action plan to remove the man’s body had to be formulated between Police Search Advisors and Body Recovery Officers – from both sides of the Solent.
This began with the removal of a vehicle from a driveway at around 08:30 this morning, allowing greater access to the static caravan.
Following the arrival on scene of specialist officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary this afternoon, the assistance of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was called upon.
Firefighters from Shanklin worked to cut out the front section of the caravan.
A private ambulance left the scene at 18:45 following a successful recovery operation.
Witbank Gardens was closed for a time but has since reopened.
Highly complex task involving dozens of experts….. firemen cut off the front of the caravan.
You cannot make it up.
RIP.
Yes, dozens, all necessary for someone’s loved one who is entitled to dignity in death.
Not quite sure I see how his dignity was preserved by turning the removal of his mortal remains into a circus.
