Firefighters are tackling a car fire on Canteen Road near Whiteley Bank this afternoon (Thursday).
1 appliance from Newport is on scene on the connecting road between Apse Heath and Whiteley Bank having been mobilised at just before 13:50.
A Peugeot 307 is well alight, but thankfully the occupants have been able to escape uninjured.
Police are also on scene and the road has been closed whilst the incident is dealt with.
UPDATE – The fire, which appears to have started in the engine bay, has been fully extinguished.
Unfortunately, the incident has occurred on a newly laid section of carriageway.
That was that section of Canteen Road that didn’t need replacing anyway, I presume?
