Children affected by family members in prison were among those to join in a family fun day held by Barnardo’s at Puckpool Park in Ryde yesterday (Tuesday).
More than 50 family members, children and Barnardo’s staff came along to the day which included team games; face painting; a raffle; prizes; hair braiding and lego building.
Barnardo’s Community Support Team for Offenders’ Families (CSOF) held the family day to bring together families and children who can often feel isolated by their situation.
Children’s Services Manager, Emma Meek said:
“It was a lovely day and a great opportunity for families and children who are in similar circumstances to get together and have some fun. Children are often unaware of others who may be experiencing the same thing as them, so events like this provide reassurance that they are not the only ones.”
The CSOF service provides support across the island to families and children who have a family member that is involved in the criminal justice system in some way.
This year the children’s charity is marking its 150th anniversary. 150 years on, the charity bearing Barnardo’s name works across the UK and is still standing up for the most neglected and disadvantaged children.
