A 24-year-old man from Newport has been arrested in connection with a collision between a car and a pedestrian which left a man with injuries in the early hours of Thursday morning.
As first reported by Island Echo, a cordon and road closure were put in place on the busy stretch of road after the incident which occured some time between 00:30 and 01:00 on Thursday 29th April.
A man in his 30s was injured in the incident and was seen by paramedics, with mainland collision investigation officers attending the scene.
Following the incident, Hampshire Constabulary released an appeal for information regarding the incident, and launched a hunt for a dark coloured car with ‘front end damage’. Several hours after the appeal, a car was seized by officers from a car park just a mile from the scene.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said:
“Enquiries into this incident remain ongoing and we continue to ask anyone with information about this incident, or who may have dash-cam footage from the area between 12.30am and 1am to make contact with police.”
Hampshire Constabulary is refusing to confirm what the 24-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of.

Good work by all concerned. Lets hope the driver gets his just desserts.
A deliberate act or an accident? I think maybe deliberate. Drug debt????
They wouldn’t have the balls , to do it deliberately.
They are want to be gangsters with peak caps and hand bags selling a bit of powder , they need there benefits stopped and be made to graft for there money like respectable people.
It’s their not there.
First charge, failing to stop after an accident…
bet the driver was wasted and thought he was making a right turn into the street just before the railings, only to drive straight up the path into the railings – the pedestrian wouldn’t have stood a chance.
