Police investigating a hit and run incident in Ryde, which saw a man in his 30s suffer serious injuries in the early hours of this morning (Thursday), have seized a vehicle.
It comes after officers investigating the collision appealed for information and for anyone who saw a dark coloured vehicle with front end damage to get in touch with them.
Island Echo can reveal that earlier this afternoon Police attended a car park off Ashey Road – around a mile from the scene of the hit and run – where a black BMW 1-Series was seized and lifted onto the back of a flatbed lorry.
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that the seizure of the BMW is part of the force’s ongoing enquiries.
Ashey Road was closed between Bettesworth Road and Leighwood Close for over 14 hours whilst forensic collision investigators from the mainland pieced together the events of the early hours of this morning. The road has since re-opened in both directions.
Police have, however, cordoned off a property just yards away from where the injured male was found. The force is yet to comment on this.
Detectives from Newport CID have taken up the case and continue to investigate the full circumstances of the incident, which was first reported by Island Echo this morning.
Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident number 94 of today’s date (29th April).
