Police are on the hunt for a car with front-end damage following a hit and run collision with a pedestrian in Ryde during the early hours of this morning (Thursday).
As first reported by Island Echo, officers have cordoned off part of Ashey Road as they investigate the circumstances behind an incident that occurred sometime between 00:30 and 01:00.
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that they are investigating a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle in which a man in his 30s suffered serious injuries.
The vehicle involved in the hit and run is believed to have been dark coloured and will now have damage to its front.

Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, anyone who may have dash-cam footage from the area between 00:30 and 01:00, or who may have seen a dark-coloured vehicle with damage to the front this morning.
Ashey Road remains closed in both directions between Bettesworth Road and Leighwood Close as enquiries continue as to the exact circumstances of the incident. Forensic collision investigators from the mainland are expected in Ryde shortly. The road is likely to remain cordoned off for the rest of the morning.
Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident number 94 of today’s date (29th April).
UPDATE @ 16:27 – Ashey road has now reopened to traffic in both directions following the closure. Southern Vectis route 37 buses are expected to resume their normal routes shortly.

Let’s hope the pedestrian makes it OK
Best the driver gives themselves in now… Forensic science will pinpoint the car very closely. There will be paint particles left on the damaged railings and from that, the make/model of the car can be identified quite closely. Paint is like DNA. It can distinguish the difference between metal paint and plastic paint which will further narrow the make model and most likely a small range of years of manufacture as car manufacturers regularly change their model colours. Best that person give up now and gain a small credit….
Do the decent thing and hand yourself in. The poor pedestrian is seriously injured.
Who the hell does that, hit someone & drive off. That’s just disgusting. I hope they are caught quickly & the law comes down hard on them.
Talk on fb about a chainsaw in this area? Quite disturbing
Why assume it was an accident? Maybe the driver was chasing some bloke that had just left his property? Maybe it was deliberate. Oh yes! I can make up stupid theories too…
I wish the victim a speedy recovery and hope an even quicker capture to this driver
He was running with a chain saw in his hand towards the car, when my son drove passed. Police informed but got there too late as he had already been hit by another car
