The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has touched down in Ryde this lunchtime (Friday) – for the second time in 24 hours – in response to a medical emergency off St Thomas’ Street.
Flying medics were scrambled from their base at Thruxton, near Andover, at just before 12:30 and have landed in the grounds of Ryde School, as they did yesterday afternoon in response to an incident on Union Street.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has an ambulance and operational commander on scene at Brigstocke Terrace, where local medics and specialist paramedics and doctors from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance are currently treating a poorly patient.
UPDATE – The air ambulance has stood down from the incident without conveying the patient.
Originaly it was going to be used for remote areas or spinal type injures. Now it seems they are called to general incidents. As quote from ‘the gaurdian” 9 out of 10 ambulance call outs are’nt even emergencys I can see this going the same way. Adding more expense. Like many people in life they either like the importance of being involved calling out the likes of a helicoptor or are just scared of the blame game if patient does not recover fully.
Spot on, Demis.
