A car has wiped out a traffic light and overturned onto its side in Ryde this lunchtime (Thursday), forcing a road closure.
Police, paramedics and firefighters are in attendance at Monkton Street, where a Skoda has crashed.
It was just before 12:15 that the single vehicle collision occurred, with the hatchback smashing into street furniture before rolling over.
Thankfully, no serious injuries have been sustained but the driver is being checked over by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Monkton Street is closed in both directions between St John’s Road and Park Road.
Southern Vectis buses Routes 2, 3 and 8 towards Ryde are diverting via East Hill Road, Dover Street and Park Road until further notice.
There must be something in the water.
Don’t tell Southern Water they will increase our bills again.

Street furniture??? What street furniture, and bearing in mind it’s a junction which means you can’t possibly be really speeding, how did they manage to roll the car let alone hit the traffic lights which have a high concrete wall in front of them
