The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has touched down in Ryde this lunchtime (Thursday) in response to a serious medical emergency in a flat above shops on Union Street.
It was shortly before 13:10 that emergency services were alerted to the incident involving a male in a residential property on one of the main roads through the Town Centre.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised an appliance from Ryde on a medical response, with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service also deploying an ambulance crew and a critical care paramedic.
Paramedics have now been joined by the flying air ambulance medics, who landed in the grounds of Ryde School at 13:33. They have been transported from the school to the scene of the emergency by fire engine.
Union Street – a one-way road – was blocked for a time, causing significant tailbacks through the town, but traffic is now easing.
UPDATE – The male patient has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
Resources have now stood down from the incident, with the air ambulance responding to a new mission in Southampton.
The island would be lost without the mainland services,
well done.
