25-year-old Thomas Walker, a drug driver from Cowes, has lost his chance to serve in the Royal Navy, a court has heard.
Walker, of Newport Road, admitted a single charge of drug driving (ketamine) when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday).
Steven Walker, prosecuting, told the court that in the early hours of 22nd February this year, Police stopped a Peugeot 208 on Mill Hill Road in Cowes.
Having pulled the vehicle over, officers spoke to the driver – Walker – who admitted that he had consumed 3 beers and that he had taken ketamine.
Tests at Newport Police Station after his arrest returned a reading of 96ug/l in Walker’s blood. The specified limit is 20ug/l court heard.
An alcohol breath test conducted returned nil readings.
Defending the groundworker and bar tender, Ava Ford told the court that her client made admissions to officers when questioned and that he knows his decision was ‘foolish’.
She added that Walker, who had not long left his grandmother’s house when he was stopped, had been offered a place in the Royal Navy but had since seen that offer rescinded following his drug driving charge.
The case was adjourned until 25th September when a pre-sentence report will be compiled.
