The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) has been scrambled to the Island following a serious road traffic collision at Yaverland today (Thursday).
Emergency crews were first called to Yaverland Road near the entrance to Sandown Bay Holiday Centre at around 11:00 following reports of a road traffic collision.
Several resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, including an Operational Commander, were quickly dispatched to the scene, joining units from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary at crash site.
Such was the severity of the incident, HIOWAA has landed behind Yaverland Sailing and Boating Club.
It is unclear at this time what vehicles have been involved or how the incident has occurred.
Yaverland Road is currently blocked as a result of the collision, with motorists advised to avoid the area for the time being.
Southern Vectis route 8 buses, as well as the Downs Breezer, are currently diverting via Morton Common.
It is anticipated that the poorly patient, believed to be a male, is to be transferred to a mainland hospital.
