A 2-month-long one-way system is about to come into force on the main road between Newport and Cowes, which is set to cause significant disruption for motorists.
With the building of houses at the new Three Oaks housing development pushing ahead at a rapid pace, focus is now turning to the local infrastructure.
Junction improvement works and utilities installation are being undertaken on Horsebridge Hill/Newport Road from the start of May, but unfortunately, this comes with a one-way closure of the main Newport to Cowes road.
From 12th May until 4th July, all traffic heading into Cowes will be diverted via Forest Road, Whitehouse Road, Rolls Hill and Pallance Road.
There will be no parking available on Pallance Road – on either side of the carriageway – to help with traffic flow.
For those leaving the town of Cowes, the main road will remain open in the Newport direction only.
Works will begin on 12th May and continue until 4th July – although it is thought normal traffic flows will be restored for the busy Isle of Wight Festival weekend in mid-June.
The one-way section will be in force between the junctions of Nicholson Street and Partridge Road, meaning those heading to the hospital, prisons and housing estates will still be able to do so from the Newport side.
It will be interesting to see how they are going to implement and enforce No Parking in Palance Road, especially in the lower part from the Travellers Joy as far as Pallance Lane, a lot of the houses do not have driveways, we also have to remember it is a 6ft 6″ width limit with all the HGV traffic heading that way.
Let’s hope it stops the Numpty’s parking along
Pallance Road once and for all, so
frustrating.
Lol
I would love to know how long this has been planned. To close a major arterial road for that length of time is ridiculous. Equally ridiculous is allowing a major housing development alongside such a road. The unacceptable inconvenience to the residents of Pallance Rd is inexcusable as they have nowhere else to park and rely on their cars as it is not a regular bus route. There will be severe problems at the junction of Whitehouse Road and Yarmouth Road (another arterial route)
To have approved this development on that site was a major error of judgement and the reasons for doing so should be subject to intense scrutiny.
There is also the factor of danger to life by seriously impeding the passage of emergency vehicles. A complete and utter failure of thought and planning!
Doesn’t surprise me, it’s the isle of Wight.
What can ever go wrong…..
Crashes just wait ..no policeing of anything ..
Traffic control should be in place 24/7 during these
works.
The Developers should pay for the traffic control.
So basically avoid West Cowes , Gurnard, Northwood, and all of it’s local businesses for the next two months or prepare for a world of pain
I will be avoiding West Cowes, Gurnard and Northwood.
Well let’s hope that the Island Council have the sense during the 2 months to make sure that wreck of the floating bridge is actually working at this time and not as it is for most of its life OUT OF ACTION.
More chance of winning the lottery
All this because of our crap building policy of building more house for the dregs coming over from the mainland
No, read the small print, they are for people who already live here.
That is right, for the island dregs.
Lol
I thought these properties were being built
for island dregs, there are plenty of them.
What about the Ambulances that may be called out heading towards Cowes and also the Buses serving this route, is there a way they can have priority?
I believe all emergency services vehicles can drive on the
wrong side of the if attending an emergency.
Brilliant what about bus route??????????
Why 2 months what 2/3 people working ..hit it hard night time ..twats..
Everything on the island takes too long.
Just wait until they put traffic control in when they have finished the development. They will have to otherwise no one from the new estate will be able to pull out onto the main road. More delays for everyone.
Ye i’m sure that’s going to happen so longer delays coming ..brilliant.
