Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is tackling a van fire on the outskirts of Shanklin this morning (Friday).
The vehicle is ablaze on the A3020 Shanklin Road between Victoria Avenue and Whiteley Bank.
It’s unclear whether the vehicle was parked in the layby at the junction of Apse Manor Road when the fire erupted, or the driver managed to pull over whilst driving before escaping the cab.
The blaze appears to have started towards the engine bay.
1 appliance from Shanklin is on scene having been called out at 06:50, with retained firefighters using breathing apparatus and hose reels to douse the flames.
The road is currently blocked both directions.

Not a hotel owning driver by any chance?
Most fortunate to have a safe place to pull in on that road.
What is the point in writing this crap
One could ask the same of your spiteful comment.
I believe the poster was jokingly suggesting that several hotels have burnt out here, with many wondering if a loss making business or an expensive to refurbish tatty hotel burning down could be in the owners favour if well insured.
No doubt an insurance job
