The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has touched down in Sandown this afternoon (Thursday).
The helicopter has landed on the rugby club field off Perowne Way, close to Sandown train station.
It is understood that the HEMS team are responding to a medical emergency at an address on Station Avenue.
The charity-funded service was alerted to the incident at sometime before 16:00 and landed in Sandown around 20 minutes later.
2 paramedics crews from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are also in attendance, as well as an ambulance service officer
UPDATE @ 16:55 – Island Echo understands that the ambulance service is attending 2 separate addresses on Station Avenue – bizarrely 1 directly opposite another.
It is not thought that the incidents are linked.
UPDATE @ 17:14 – A seriously unwell patient has been conveyed from Station Avenue to the rugby ground by ambulance to be flown to a mainland hospital.
An elderly male from the second address is due to be taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
UPDATE @ 17:40 – The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has now taken off from Perowne Way en-route Southampton General Hospital on the mainland.
